Oct 2, 00 Onyx Software Strengthens Expertise in ASP Market
BELLEVUE, Wash. - Onyx Software Corp. (Nasdaq: ONXS), a global supplier of customer-centric e-business solutions, continues to display its leadership position and forward momentum in the application service provider (ASP) market by today announcing the appointment of Scott Bledsoe as vice president of business development and Solveig Whittle as director of marketing for the Onyx global business development (GBD) and outsourced applications division. Bledsoe joins Onyx from Affiliated Computer Systems (ACS) where he was senior vice president and Whittle joins from FutureLink, where she was senior vice president of marketing. Bledsoe and Whittle join the company's ASP organization at a time when analysts are predicting explosive growth in both e-business and outsourced application services. Onyx has been committed to the emerging ASP market as early as 1998, when Onyx's current director of ASPiN, Ric Merrifield, led the company's outsourced applications initiative as a founding member of the ASP Industry Consortium. Merrifield still serves on the board of the organization as well as chairs the Consortium's education committee. The Onyx GBD division continues to grow at an exponential pace, with staff expansion hitting 300 percent in the past two years. Bledsoe and Whittle will continue current activities underway as well as drive new ventures to further position the company in this critical market. "Bringing in two heavy hitters is a major win for Onyx," said Eben Frankenberg, vice president of sales and marketing for Onyx Software. "The revenue opportunity in the this market is significant and as such we are building up our team to address the growing customer demand for outsourced solutions. Scott and Solveig are going to continue building this segment of Onyx as a core piece of our business model." Bledsoe comes to Onyx with a wealth of both management and business process outsourcing experience. As vice president of business development and outsourced services, he will be responsible for building strategic relationships, and developing and implementing new business strategies. Most recently Bledsoe held the position of senior vice president, global business development at Dallas-based ACS, a $2.6 billion business process outsourcing and IT outsourcing firm. During his 11 years with ACS he was one of the pioneers and principal architects of the company's highly successful offerings including outsourced image management services (OIMS) and business process solutions (BPS), conducting direct sales campaigns and directing ASP and channel partner programs for the company's BPS division. In addition to sitting on various industry leadership councils, he is a frequent keynote speaker on ASP and outsourced services. He holds a bachelor's of science degree with honors from University of Idaho. "Onyx is by far the most focused company in the customer relationship management (CRM) space with an aggressive commitment to outsourced, OEM and other service offerings," said Scott Bledsoe, newly appointed vice president of business development and outsourced services for Onyx Software. "I am excited to drive this business offering and plan to overlay my extensive experience in business process outsourcing and business development to augment the total value proposition and leadership position Onyx holds." Whittle brings more than 15 years high-tech marketing experience to Onyx, where she will be responsible for product management and marketing communications for the GBD division. Most recently, she served as senior vice president of marketing for FutureLink Corp., a leading ASP based in Irvine, Calif. Whittle also held a variety of product management positions during her seven year tenure at Microsoft Corp. where she was responsible for launching and marketing several software products, and helping to drive Microsoft's initial ASP strategic planning for the Windows group, including product planning, positioning, messaging and channel development. Whittle began her technology career as a programmer at AT&T Bell Laboratories. She holds an MBA from University of Chicago and a BSE from University of Pennsylvania. Through its success in partnering with leading ASPs, Onyx anticipates a growing percentage of its software revenue will come from the outsourced services channel in 2001. Onyx inked a series of customer-driven partnerships in this market to date, including agreements with vertical partners such as Intelligroup (professional services), ByeByeNow.com (vacation travel services), Interliant and Softbank (infrastructure for high tech venture-funded companies), Telstra (an Australian telecommunications company targeting small business franchisees), LoanUpdate.com (mortgage brokererage) and Crowe Chizek (community banking). These offerings use Onyx technology as an e-business platform and add other complementary vertical applications to deliver a comprehensive solution for the individual markets they target.
