Aug 12, 99 New Zealand's Leading Internet-based Bank Implements Onyx Software BankDirect Incorporates Onyx Software's Customer Relationship Management System into Daily Operations Bellevue, WA - Onyx Software Corporation (NASDAQ: ONXS), a leading provider of Web-based Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, today announced that BankDirect, New Zealand's first complete phone and Internet-based bank, has implemented Onyx Front Office to manage all aspects of its customer relationships. BankDirect of New Zealand is part of the ASB Group of Companies. Onyx Front Office has allowed BankDirect to increase the efficiency of customer information, introduce greater Web functionality for customers and built a platform for future growth. BankDirect's call center account managers use Onyx Front Office 24 hours a day, seven days a week to maximize sales opportunities for financial products such as savings accounts and loans. In addition, Onyx Front Office is used for customer service functions, such as assisting customers with queries about lost cards, forgotten PIN numbers or loan repayments. The system is also used for marketing automation, profiling and literature fulfillment functions. Onyx's campaign and list management functionality will enable BankDirect to improve the effectiveness of its marketing plans through more efficient targeting of products and services to customers. Customers can order brochures over the Web and elect to receive them via their preferred channel - the Web, fax or hard copy. BankDirect will also integrate Onyx Front Office with an external mailing house for literature fulfillment. BankDirect's previous customer management system did not fit with the bank's visionary technology direction that allows customers wide access to their banking. "We were looking for a new platform that we could grow with, that gave us better flexibility and that was built on Microsoft's NT Server, SQL Server and Exchange," said Derek Redman, BankDirect's technology manager. "Onyx gives us a great deal of flexibility for customizations while retaining all the benefits of a package, such as maintenance and access to new products and enhancements." Onyx Front Office has been integrated with other BankDirect mission critical applications, such as credit checking systems which allows BankDirect's call center staff to easily provide complete and accurate information while working with customers. The Onyx implementation also includes online loan application processing via a Web interface that enables customers to track the status of their loan application online. "The Web implementation will give a lot more control to the customer," Redman said. "It's all about customer acquisition and the sales process. We are a direct sales organization. We're selling financial products - savings accounts, loans - and we want to make that as easy as possible for our customers and Onyx helps us do that." "Customer relationship management is absolutely key to our business. We have to know our customers, understand their behavior and respond to their needs. With Onyx, we have better information about our customers, we are a much more efficient operation in terms of how we schedule call-backs, do follow-ups and work with customers," Redman added. "Better management of information means we know what's happening with our customers in the Call Centre and we know the state of sales with the customers. We can do everything more efficiently.
