Onyx Software Ships Onyx Enterprise CRM 4.0 Suite Seattle — Onyx® Software Corp. (Nasdaq: ONXS) today announced the immediate availability of its new suite of customer relationship management (CRM) applications, Onyx Enterprise CRM 4.0. Onyx made the announcement at a launch event for customers, prospective customers, partners, analysts and members of the media at SAFECO Field, the home of Onyx customer the Seattle Mariners. Onyx Enterprise CRM 4.0, the fourth Internet-based version of Onyx’s CRM suite, has been designed to reinforce Onyx’s leadership in usability and cost-effectiveness. The suite was specifically developed to run on a Web services-enabled platform, using standards-based Internet technologies including XML. Onyx’s pure Internet architecture approach allows easier integration with other applications; low total cost of ownership through reduced administration and maintenance requirements; and fast, flexible configuration so organizations can mold and continually reshape the applications to meet their changing business needs. "At Onyx we judge ourselves based on the success of our customers," said Brent Frei, chief executive officer of Onyx Software. "We make sure our customers have the features, functionality and underlying technology they need to effectively deploy CRM technology without incurring the burden and cost associated with competing, overly complex solutions. Onyx Enterprise CRM 4.0 was built with usability, cost-effectiveness and real business value in mind — it was built to deliver CRM success." Onyx 4.0 integrates fully with other enterprise applications and existing legacy applications, supports the use of industry-standard tools, and has a highly customizable and open standards interface. With this release, Onyx has also added support for the Oracle database and broadened the suite’s functional feature set. Multiple Onyx customers are already using Onyx Enterprise CRM 4.0, including the Seattle Mariners, Netegrity Inc., Aventail Corp., Rainbow Technologies Inc. and Eschelon Telecom Inc., the last of which participated in the Oracle Edition Early Adopter program. "As a longtime user of Onyx software, it’s a natural progression for Eschelon to evolve to this state-of-the-art CRM platform on Oracle," said Arlin Goldberg, executive vice president of Information Technology at Eschelon Telecom Inc. "Onyx Enterprise CRM fits with our strategic direction, and as we transition to it we will be able to leverage our existing expertise in Oracle Database management, use the Web interface to customize the user experience, and take advantage of new opportunities to integrate Onyx with existing OSS applications at Eschelon."
Multiple Database Support
Broadened Functionality Onyx implemented more than 100 customer-requested improvements in this version. These enhancements were identified through a customer survey that was designed to identify areas where Onyx could improve user workflow and usability to increase user adoption.
Web Services-Enabled Platform Onyx 4.0 relies on XML for communication throughout the application suite. All data sent and received from the application server is formatted and managed as XML. Most CRM vendors deliver partial XML veneers over existing non-XML platforms, thereby increasing complexity and forcing manual recoding for customization. In contrast to this, Onyx customers can use industry-standard languages to customize existing business logic and create new business logic that can automatically be exposed as an XML-based web service via Onyx’s application server.
