Nov 6, 2001 Onyx Software Strengthens International CRM Offering; Provides Unicode Support Localized language versions, Unicode enable global companies to use multi-lingual text in a single, worldwide database
BELLEVUE, Wash. - Onyx® Software Corporation (NASDAQ: ONXS), a global supplier of customer relationship management (CRM) enterprise applications, today announced it has shipped German, French, Spanish and Japanese versions of Onyx Employee Portal (OEP) 3.0 - Onyx's third-generation, Internet-native CRM portal. The company is also working with partners to ship other foreign language versions of OEP 3.0 in the next few months, including Finnish, Swedish, and Norwegian versions. The 3.0-based products leverage Unicode - an industry-wide, character-encoding standard, which supports all languages and allows companies to use multi-lingual text in a single database. Including OEP 3.0, Onyx now has localized products in more than 10 languages.
"Strong international product capabilities have always been a high priority at Onyx," said Blayne Plummer, International R&D Manager. "The addition of Unicode support and localized versions further strengthens our rigorous internationalization process, which includes support for multiple currencies, time zones and locale settings, and compatibility verification with foreign language operating systems. Our R&D teams in the U.K. and Japan provide us with additional regional insight to meet expanding international needs."
Unicode gives companies the flexibility to have their worldwide offices use a single database, regardless of the language in which the text is entered; e. g. German, Japanese, Chinese, etc. This means users in different regions of the world can access a database via a localized browser-based interface and enter and manipulate data in their native languages. All users have access to this global data even though it was entered from different regions. Without Unicode, the company would have to employ multiple databases and system administration - a costly and unwieldy alternative.
"Our improved international product capabilities are a testament to our commitment to international markets," said Brent Frei, CEO of Onyx Software. "Today, most of our competitors have yet to support Unicode and invest in a strong internationalization methodology. Onyx has always focused on making our products internationally compliant. And as companies continue to expand globally and rely on the Internet, this is a critical requirement that Onyx is able to meet and leverage."
More than 300 customers worldwide have purchased OEP, including Airborne Express, NTL Group, ASB Bank, Suncorp-Metway, Commerce One, NTT Communications and Credit Suisse First Boston. OEP 3.0 leverages Onyx Enterprise Application Server (OEAS) to deliver industry-leading scalability and extensibility. Built entirely on standard Internet technologies, OEAS enables large enterprises to deploy and maintain high-performance, fully-customized Internet-based CRM systems in less time and at a much lower cost than required with traditional client-server solutions.
Onyx has offices in 10 countries and works with partners to conduct business in 25 others. In the most recently ended quarter, international revenue accounted for nearly 30 percent of Onyx's total revenue. More than 200 companies in 26 countries use Onyx software, including a substantial number who use localized language versions.
