Customizing Onyx Partner Portal
This three day course is designed to prepare Web Developers and COM Developers to customize Onyx Partner Portal. Through a combination of lecture, discussions, hands-on exercises, and a class project, participants will learn how to configure, administer, and customize the Onyx Partner Portal.
This is a practical course with both individual and group lab work. Participants will learn about the architecture, relevant technology and customization process. The final lab assignment is a group project where participants demonstrate their acquired skill through a comprehensive, real-life project. Participants are welcome to bring scenarios for their projects, or use the project scenarios provided in class.

For product demonstrations, the most current version of Onyx Employee Portal is used in Onyx University courses.
Objective: Participants will setup-up, configure, administer, and customize the Onyx Partner Portal.
Target Audience: COM Developers and Web Developers.
Prerequisites:
- Participants will benefit from experience in the following: MS DNA, IIS, Windows 2000 Administration, MS SQL Server 2000, JScript, ASP, and the Microsoft XMLDOM.
- Attendance in the Administering OEAS - SQL course or equivalent experience.
Course Length: Three days, 9:00am - 5:00pm

Course Topics
OPP Introduction and Architecture
- Develop an Understanding of the OPP architecture (3 tiers)
Set-up, Configuration, and Use of the Channel Manager
- Install the Onyx Enterprise Dictionary, Onyx Enterprise Application Server, Onyx Employee Portal, and Onyx Partner Portal.
- Configure accounts for Partner Administrators, Lead Distributors, and Channel Managers.
- Create accounts and distribute them to Partners for viewing via the Partner Portal.
Middle Tier Customization
- Develop Middle Tier COM Objects in Visual Basic 6.0 that use XML data formats and work with the Document Object Model (DOM) to manipulate data passed to step components.
- Use Onyx Design Workbench tool to manipulate the Onyx Enterprise Dictionary (OED), configure COM+ security settings and debug COM objects.
Web Tier Customization
- Implement Web Tier customizations that integrate with existing Middle Tier customizations or execute the required functionality on their own.
- Use xHTML and Jscript for scripting for use with both Netscape and Internet Explorer.
Security
- Learn how the Onyx Partner Portal ensures a secure environment through COM+ constructs, roles, and Group Access rules.
- Administer security and customize the security process.
Project
- Develop a solution for scenarios that require Partner Portal Customization. If participants have a particular real-life customization in mind it is possible to use those scenarios in class. The project will be completed in groups.
