A three-day training to introduce participants to Onyx Analytics. At the end of this course participants will be able to configure Onyx Analytics with Cognos ReportNet applications (Framework Manager, Report Studio and Cognos Connection) and customize the Onyx Model to reflect their site specific reporting needs. Participants will work through hands-on labs as an introduction to Report Studio features and will be able to create basic to intermediate reports, build prompts and apply security using Report Studio and Cognos Connection.

Note: This course is not meant to displace the training classes offered by Cognos but is complimentary to those classes focusing on the Onyx related aspects. Training from both companies may need to be incorporated into the attendees overall training plan.

Couse Topics

Participants will use Framework Manager and SQL tools to customize the Onyx Analytics model to reflect their reporting environment (including custom tables and external data). Participants will also learn to gather Onyx report requirements, create and deploy reports through OEP 5.5 and Cognos Connection.

Participants will learn to:

• Install and configure of Cognos ReportNet on a single server system.
• Install and configure Onyx Analytics
  • Setting the Onyx security adapter
• Understand Cognos ReportNet (CRN) and Framework Manager
• Understand the CRN report design and development environment
• Understand the Framework Manager development environment
• Use Framework Manager to customize the Onyx Model
• Publish and administer reporting packages
• Review the CRN report design, development and deployment methodology
• Create reports using Report Studio
  • Use formatting options
  • Create built-in filters
• Build prompts and calculations into reports
• Understand the reporting query model structure
• Deploy reports through Cognos Connection
• Use Cognos Connection to secure and schedule reports
• Launch reports through OEP

Target Audience: The Onyx DBA, Administrator and Data Modeler and who will be responsible for configuring Onyx Analytics with their reporting Onyx database. As well as the Project Manager and Report Authors responsible for gathering report requirements, creating the reports, and deploying them through OEP 5.5 and Cognos Connection.
