Scripting with Onyx

This three-day course teaches the skills and techniques required to design, build and deploy Onyx call and process scripts. Participants will gain hands-on experience with script workflow design and development using the Onyx Enterprise Studio Design Workbench toolset.

Through a combination of presentation, demonstration and a series of hands-on exercises, course participants will build a complete script that will assist in customer information gathering and real-time decision making using prompts, rules and dynamic information delivery from the Onyx Enterprise Database.

For product demonstrations, the most current version of Onyx Employee Portal is used in Onyx University courses.

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the purpose of scripts
  • Streamline customer related business processes into a script
  • Use the Script Designer tool to create:
    • Script detail information, form layout including header and footers w/HTML formatting
    • Interaction through prompts and responses
    • Links between customer interactions through script rules
    • Dynamic interaction with the Onyx Enterprise Database through Method Calls
  • Understand how to apply variables to a script in order to:
    • Merge customer data into a script header, footer or prompt text
    • Evaluate the variable as part of a rule
    • Set a default value for a prompt
    • Populate list prompts
    • Provide input data
  • Build condition statements in a rule to facilitate branching and understand how the sequence the rules are processed
  • Understand the database and object requirements in order to build a Method Call into a script
  • Use the Method Call Designer tool to build the following Method Calls:
    • Retrieve and display customer information
    • Update customer information
    • Insert customer detail activity (sales opportunity, product registration…)
Objective: Participants will learn how to design and implement customer related business processes through scripting. They will have the ability to create and edit a customer process script and will be able to write Method Calls to interact with the Onyx Enterprise Database.

Target Audience: Onyx System/Database Administrators, Business Analysts and other members of the Onyx deployment team responsible for implementing and executing the deployment of Call and Process scripts.

Prerequisite: Thoroughly understand how Onyx Employee Portal is used at your site to gather and process customer information.

Experience with Onyx Enterprise Studio and Administration Workbench is helpful but not required

Course Length: Three days, 9:00am - 5:00pm
